Earlier this year, Sylvia Martinez lost her job as an HR manager. Overwhelmed, she tried to commit suicide. She survived the attempt, but since then, things have gone from bad to worse. On Tuesday, she lost her few remaining possessions in a fire.

City initiative targets cardiovascular disease
The Baltimore Health Department has launched an effort to combat the city's biggest killercardiovascular disease. The initiative centers on education, prevention and treatment of a disease that kills 2,000 people in Baltimore each year, a disproportionate number of whom are black.
